FAQs
Chief Financial Officer
New Jersey statutes require that the Borough of Haddon Heights issue an annual report of audit detailing it's financial position and activity. This report is conducted by an independent Registered Municipal Accountant.
Invoices are approved to be paid at the regularly scheduled Council meetings which are held on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of each month.
The annual budget shall be adopted no later than March 20 of the calendar fiscal year by resolution adopted by a majority of the full membership of the governing body.
Search Tips and Tricks
Yes. The website indexes web pages as well as PDFs, Microsoft Office documents, and text documents.
No. By default, the search results will show matches for any word within the phrase. In this example, you would receive results for all web pages and documents that contained either the word alarm or the word permit or both.
In order to search on an exact phrase, enclose your search phrase in quotations. The search results for "alarm permit" will show matches for that exact phrase.
Yes. You can exclude words by using the minus sign (-). In order to find the results of all pages that have alarm in the result but not permit, you would search for alarm -permit.
Snow Removal
The plows must push the snow to the side in order to clear the street. It is not possible to avoid plowing snow into driveways and/or cars that are parked on the street.
Completing a route from start to finish takes time; it is simply not possible to plow every street at the same time. In storms in which the duration is lengthy, it is likely that the route had been plowed and has since been covered with additional snow. Please be assured that all streets are plowed as quickly as possible.
Tax Collector
By contacting the Tax & Finance Office to find out the redemption figure. Payment must be made in full.
Any taxes remaining unpaid after the 10-day grace period are subject to interest back to the first day of each quarter. The interest rate charged is 8% on the first $1,500 of delinquency and 18% on any amount over $1,500.00 of delinquent tax. The rate of 18% remains until there is no delinquent tax even if the amount falls below $1,500.00.
Notify the Tax & Finance Office right away so that all future mailings may be properly delivered. Notification must be in writing with the signature of the homeowner. Failure to properly deliver a tax bill or delinquent notice does not relieve the property owner from interest payments. Unpaid balances will continue to accrue interest until the full balance is paid.
The Tax Collector’s office keeps track of who is responsible for paying the taxes on each property. If there is any change in your agreement with your mortgage company which results in a change to who makes the payments the tax office should be notified right away. If you have a bank or mortgage company escrowing your taxes, they will receive the original tax bill and you will receive a copy. If you change from your mortgage company paying your taxes to doing it yourself, then you may use the advice copy stubs that were mailed to you in the summertime.
A tax sale is a sale of unpaid prior year balances including taxes, water/sewer & CCMUA charges. This sale puts a lien against your property which would need to be redeemed upon the sale of the property if not sooner. Lien holders have the right to foreclose if the lien had not been paid off after 2 years.
Taxes are payable quarterly on the first day of February, May, August, and November.
There is a 10-day grace period. After the grace period, taxes are delinquent and subject to interest back to the first day of the quarter. If the 10th falls on a weekend or holiday, taxes are due the next business day. Postmarks are not indicative of a receipt.
Tax bills are mailed out ONCE a year in July.
Duplicate copies can be obtained from the tax office. If you sell your home, bring your tax bill to the closing. It is important to give it to the new owner so they have the tax information to continue paying the tax bill. The State of New Jersey has determined it is the homeowner’s responsibility to pay property taxes in a timely fashion and the absence of a tax bill does not prevent interest accrual.
Trash & Recycling
The easiest way to sort your plastics is to look at the bottom of the container. Anything with a #1 or #2 on the bottom is recyclable. All other plastics go in the trash. Plastic bags are not yet recyclable but many grocery stores have bag recycling programs.
Yard waste is picked up by a separate truck.
White goods consist of all metal items and appliances. Please remove concrete from metal posts. Chain link fences and propane tanks are NOT white goods.
The Department of Public Works will schedule a pick-up of your white goods, please call the office at 856-547-1240.
**Important! Refrigerator doors must be removed.
Unlike previous recycling methods (where separating individual materials were required), single stream recycling technology does not require homeowners to separate individual recyclables (paper, glass, aluminum, and plastics). Now all recyclables can be placed together in your red recycling can.
On Tuesdays, April through Columbus Day (October), place clippings in an open container not to exceed 60 pounds. Do not mix with trash and remove all dirt. Place grass clipping cans at least 10 feet from household trash cans. When cans are mixed together, it causes both the trash contractor and the Department of Public Works to miss cans.
Only on your brush day, tie and bundle not to exceed four feet in length or 60 pounds in weight. Do not put out until the night before your recycling day.
These items are put out on regular trash day.
